Do you bundle a mesher with your software? No we do not bundle a meshing tool.
What types of meshing tools do you recommend? If you want to take the full advantage of the speed up capabilities, we recommend going with a meshing tool that can output structured & unstructured data in one file. Pointwise, Gridpro, and BETA Ansa all support this capability. We support ICEM multiblock also, though you need to output structured and unstructured blocks separately. We have utilities for merging files as part of the pre-solver workflow.
What file type do I need to export to? CGNS
What are the cell types supported by your solver? Typical meshes generated by our current meshers can contain all types (hexahedrons, prisms, wedges, pyramids, tetrahedrons and polyhedrons). We support mesh types that the CGNS standard supports. This includes Cartesian structured, and on the unstructured side it includes, tetrahedral, hex, prism, wedges, pyramids.
Is there significant performance penalties associated with certain file types? Performance is practically always better with structured (meaning grid and data both structured) mesh blocks. These run around 2x faster than unstructured blocks of equivalent size. To get the most out of our solver, we usually limit the use of unstructured blocks only to where it is necessary to resolve geometry. That being said, our solver does support fully unstructured meshes.
